Google withdraws 16GB Nexus 7 due to popular demand
Who'd have thought the bargain of the year would be so popular?
Normally, when a gadget's popular, the manufacturer will pull out all the stops to widen availability. Not Google. The company has withdrawn the 16GB model of the Google Nexus 7 from sale due to immense demand.
Of course, Google's move isn't quite as stupid as it sounds. In fact, it's pretty sensible.
Demand for the Google Nexus 7 16GB has been so strong that demand is far outstripping supply. In an effort to bring the two into balance, and to avoid a frustrating wait for those that have placed orders, Google has suspended the ability to purchase the 16GB version.
It seems Google has been caught off-guard by the incredible popularity of the 16GB Nexus 7 model. It was apparently believed that the 8GB model, which retails for just £159 on the Google Play store, would be the bigger hit.
That hasn't proven to be the case, with large numbers of customers more than willing to pay the extra £40 for double the storage.
Head on over to the page for the 16GB model on the Google Play Store and you'll be greeted with a "Coming Soon" message, along with an application field for email notifications on the device's availability. The Guardian
