GAME reaps the benefit of Zavvi and Woolworths woes
|
DS + PSP

The world may be falling apart, but that hasn’t stopped the GAME retail group from enjoying a massive 16.6 per cent sales surge during December and the first two weeks of January.

The big boys did most of the business, with Call of Duty: World at War, Fallout 3, and Need for Speed Undercover all amongst the year’s biggest sellers, but there was also ‘exceptional consumer demand’ for DS exclusives Brain Training and Professor Layton and the Curious Village.

How did it manage to do so well? Good business no doubt played a part, but so did the unfortunate demise of Woolworths and distributor EUK, which in turn brought Zavvi to its knees. Along with Gamestation, GAME was simply among the last men standing.

Gamestation is of course owned by GAME, making the latter’s position all but unassailable. Our advice: enjoy it while you can, boys, because five years from now it’ll be DLC and sky drives as far as the eye can see.
