E3 2008: PS3-style Trophies and Friends List could be on their way to PSP
Sony WWS president and Buzz! Master Quiz producer slip out some information
The PS3's Trophy system could be brought to PSP. That's if a little slip by Buzz! Master Quiz producer Emerson Escobar is all that it sounds.
During an interview at the GameSpot Live E3 2008 Stage Show it seems he might have unveiled a little more than he should have when talking about rewards in his upcoming PSP quiz game.
"The cool thing is it isn't just getting the gold medal," said Escobar. "We've also implemented a Trophy System. Let's say you answer a question within one second, you get a lightning finger trophy. If you answer a question within half a second, you get a supersonic trophy."
Obviously you'd normally assume he's referring to some sort of in-game award system, but the terminology used is more than a little suspicious.
On Sony's home console, these Trophies are set to work similarly to Xbox 360 Live's Achievements, rewarding players with platinum, gold, silver and bronze trophies and a 'level' for completing various in-game tasks. Online, other players will then be able to view other players' trophies.
When quizzed directly about Trophies on PSP, Escobar reportedly laughed and sheepishly said to "check back with us later."
Elsewhere, reports are coming in that Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida confirmed in an interview that the plan is to introduce a Friends List mechanic to PSP in the near future.
We'll be keeping our beady eyes on this one, so check back with us later for more news.
