And it's only available in Japan

Were you sceptical about the likelihood of the DSi making a big immediate impression given its unadventurous similarity with the DS Lite? Were you of the opinion that while the new model will eventually supplant its predecessor, this will largely happen as a result of older units breaking down and being replaced? If so, congratulations: you look like a tool.

It sold out in the first two days of its Japanese launch, and by the middle of November it had racked up something like 200,000 sales. For the whole month, Nintendo sold an impressive 535,379 DSis, a number that falls just short of the DS Lite's record of 550,000, and which brings the total sales of all three DS models to 24,239,590.

That's one DS for every allied casualty in The Great War, with a couple of million left over for POWs and conscies.

The PSP is trailing, meanwhile, despite the recent launch of the PSP-3000, with around 200,000 units sold in Japan. The DS Lite is predictably out of the contest, having sold around 47,000, although these figures may be a few thousand short.
