Devil May Cry the animated series is out now on Netflix
I suppose you could almost call it the peak...of combat

- The Devil May Cry Animated series is out now on Netflix
- It follows a younger version of the iconic devil hunter Dante
- With showrunner Adi Shankar at the helm it shows just how large the series still looms
Well, as we head into the weekend, things are looking a little quieter than usual, so it seems like as good a time as any to note Netflix's latest animated series based on a video game is out now! That's right, Devil May Cry is styling into action on the streaming platform now.
With an all-star voice cast, Studio Mir at the animating helm and veteran showrunner Adi Shankar on board, it's little surprise that this newest series has garnered much attention. Set in its own universe, and timeline-wise before the series itself, it promises to show us a much younger version of Dante before he became the iconic character we know and love.
It's been something of a renaissance for Devil May Cry, as the most recent entry DMC:5 still looms large, alongside the release of Devil May Cry: Peak of Combat in the West by Tencent a few years ago. But with the animated series reigniting interest, it certainly begs the question of what might be next for this venerable franchise.

I have mixed feelings about Adi Shankar, but considering he helped get Dredd into cinemas I don't think there's anything he could do that would make me hate him or his style. That said, I've already seen rumblings that his more Americanised take on DMC isn't universally sitting well with series fans, but one can never doubt the effort that goes into those productions he's attached to.
