Capcom not sure about developing for DSi

Publisher decides to sit on the fence for a while

Despite the DSi selling out of its initial shipments in Japan, it seems Capcom isn't convinced the new DS hardware will be worth developing games specifically for.

As Kotaku reports, when asked during its Q2 financial results Q&A whether the Mega Man and Phoenix Wright publisher would be releasing specific games that take advantage of DSi's new features, Capcom president Haruhiro Tsujimoto replied:

"As the Nintendo DSi was just released recently, Capcom would like to see the response of users in the future and respond to that. We select the console based on our game concept. Therefore, after analysing the sales situation and user trends for Nintendo DSi, if we have some contents suitable for the console, we will consider it."

It sounds like a sensible enough answer, although it's interesting that one of the biggest publishers of DS games isn't quite confident enough about the numbers that will be sold to invest in producing games for it at this early stage.

Of course, with so many millions of 'old' DS consoles out there, it probably doesn't make much financial sense to release a game that only works with the comparatively small handful of DSis in the hands of gamers just yet. Still, we look forward to a camera-compatible Phoenix Wright one day.
