All future Sony Japan UMD games will be downloadable
Sony takes giant leap into digital distribution
Sony Japan has announced that all of its future UMD games will also be made available to buy and download through the PS Store.
CVG reports the news, which follows earlier confirmation that PSP-owners in Japan will be able to directly access the PS Store through their consoles from October 15th.
Destroy all Heroes 2 will be the first game to get the dual-release. Others on SCEJ's release schedule, which should also be made available for download, are:
Bleach Soul Carnival - October 23
Secret Agent Clank - November 20
Patapon 2 - November 27
LocoRoco2 - December 4
Enkaku Sousa - 23 days for the "Truth" - Winter 2008
Gunshot and the Diamonds (working title) - Spring 2009
Resistance: Retribution - Spring 2009
Ape Quest - TBC
The move is welcome news and shows Sony is planning to fully support the new direct-access PS Store. It's also a big step in the direction of all-digital distribution .
There's no news from Sony as yet on when we'll be getting direct access to the store in the west. When it does come, it'll be interesting to see if Sony Europe follows suit by making all first-party Sony titles available to buy through the store.
