Slightly more than just tapping

MLB Tap Sports Baseball 20 is probably one of the easiest pick-up and play games on mobile. It's simple "tap" style of play is enjoyable and makes it great for gamers of all kinds. In many baseball games, you are required to hit pitches by pointing a cursor of some type near where the pitch is coming. From there, you need to time it right to get a good hit.

In TSB, it's simply all about tapping that phone screen and doing so correctly. With that being said, there are still some things that you need to keep in mind when heading to the virtual diamond. Of course, the game is heavily focused on the hitting side of things, so a couple of these tips will revolve around it.

There's also a pitching aspect that can be overlooked at times but is critical for success against opponents. And the last thing you want your opponents to do is to take advantage of bad pitching. Overall though, it shouldn't take too long to get comfortable with how things are played. Here are a few tips to keep in mind.

Timing is everything

One constant that you see in baseball and other sports games is timing. And I don't think there is another game that puts the emphasis on that quite like the TSB series. That's why the game has "Tap" in its name after all. You don't need to worry about aiming your swing in the game. All you need to do is tap.

However, it's important to know that it's not exactly a walk in the park. You need to make sure your timing is on-point. Keep an eye on pitch speed and try not to be fooled. The ball may seem like it's coming in hot, but in reality, it isn't. So it's important to keep that in mind.

Your best bet is to be more patient at the plate. It's better to be a tad late than early. Having the mindset of waiting later for a pitch will result in more hits. Not to mention, if you have a powerful hitter at the dish, then perfect timing will lead to a home run. So always keep timing in mind and you'll be tapping like a pro.

Don't be afraid to lay off pitches

Hitting isn't just all about swinging out of your shoes at every pitch until you get a hit. You still will need to put your vision to the test and see the pitches that are coming. If you need to take the first pitch to be on the safe side, then don't be scared to do so.

As you might expect, pitchers frequently change up their pitches. These will throw you off if you aren't careful. If they throw some curveballs your way, they can easily slip out of the strike zone. On some occasions, balls will nearly hit you, causing your batter to back out of the way so he sort of takes the pitch for you.

Improving your plate discipline will help you greatly. And bonus points if you've played baseball games before and understand this. But with TSB 20's simple controls, it's easy to just tap that screen when a pitch comes as you lick your chops. As awesome as it is to hit the ball, just make sure not to fall for those sneaky pitches, alright?

Replace your pitches when needed

As with real baseball, many starting pitchers get taken out of games after so many innings on the mound. They are usually replaced by a reliever or in some cases the closing pitcher if the starter goes the distance. The same applies in this game, so it's critical to watch for your pitcher's stamina.

The good thing is that they make it easy to swap out your pitchers. With games going so quickly, a prompt will usually pop up to ask you if you'd like to take him out. Or, if you have it, you can apply some energy to your pitcher to keep him in the game.

Do whatever you feel is smart, but just don't leave him out there without any energy. This will allow your opponent to take advantage (I got smoked in a game by letting this happen). If you have some good arms in your bullpen, then that's even better.
