Some people call it October. Some people call it Rocktober. I call it October.

To combat what EA calls the “October blues”, the publisher is holding an App Store 'Console Classics' sale. Mirror's Edge, R-Type, Rock Band, and Need for Speed: Shift are all available for 59p for “a limited time only.”

Mirror's Edge is probably the pick of the bunch. Adapted recently from the acclaimed iPad launch game, it's a polished Canabalt-style run-'em-up that normally costs £2.99. Get it here.

Need for Speed: Shift is an immaculate iPhone version of the popular street racer with excellent handling and plenty of customisation options. It was one of our favourite games of 2009, and it normally costs £3.99. Get it here.

Rock Band is a solid conversion of the console hit let down a bit by a poor vocals system that works like the other instruments, rather than letting you sing into your device's microphone. It normally costs £3.99. Get it here.

Finally, R-Type is a so-so port of the timeless arcade classic. It wisely opts not to tinker with the formula, and the virtual control options do a solid job, but there's no substitute for physical controls. It normally costs £1.19. Get it here.

The sale appears to be UK-only for the time being, so if you're in the US you may be out of luck.
