Gigantic update for retro iPhone platformer Meganoid, including new levels, new character
Now over 200 ways to die
OrangePixel's hard-as-nails iPhone platformer Meganoid always reminds me of two things: the meaning of the term ‘Nintendo Hard’, and the old unofficial Dwarf Fortress motto, ‘Losing is Fun’.
Well, the difficulty bar has suddenly been raised that little bit higher, for the developer has issued a massive update to its '80s-inspired, pixel-art adventure.
iPhone gamers of a nervous disposition should look away for the next 15 seconds, given that Meganoid now contains 90 levels of running, jumping, dying in the regular Hero mode and 80 in the harder Sarge mode.
As well as this, the Oreah mode - already out for Android - is now available, allowing players to go through 50 of the previously completed levels in reverse. Yes, you can fail backwards!
The new content arrives alongside Game Center support and further tweaks to the controls, which have been getting steadily better since the game was released.
OrangePixel mentions that there is still “even more to come”, with plans to increase the number of levels in each game mode to 100. Fans of unrelenting challenge: rejoice!
