Marvel Battle Lines gets a gameplay trailer at San Diego Comic-Con

Marvel Battle Lines has just revealed its first bit of gameplay footage at San Diego Comic-Con, and hey, it actually looks pretty cool.

It seems to have taken a little inspiration from Hearthstone with some of its mechanics. It's a one vs one where you have a pre-built deck of cards that all have their own unique effects and abilities, and you have to lower your opponent's health to zero in order to win. However, the board is quite different being a 3x4 grid with your cards occupying one square.

It's an interesting change which leaps making me think about the gameplay implications and sheer possibilities of different ways to play. You'll not only have to consider what's the best card to use in any given situation but also where about on the board it should be placed. It adds an extra layer of strategy which I think will make for an engaging gameplay experience.

Every card is based on a Marvel superhero or supervillain, people will finally be able to play out their fan-fic of Captain America and Thanos joining forces to take down Iron Man. Seriously guys, Iron Man is a worst.

Marvel Battle Lines does not yet have a release date, but it will be out sometime later this year for free on iOS and Android. If you're keen to play you can pre-register right now and you'll receive a Doctor Strange card to add to your collection as soon as it's out.
