Getting tired of building cities? Unwind with some action RPG combat in Kingdom & Dragons

Fantasy city builders are becoming so popular that they'll soon warrant their own catchy genre name (Serf City, anyone?).

Yet Gamevil's latest entrant breaks the mold by combining city building with some light action RPG gameplay.

The end result is the endearingly bright Kingdom & Dragons, in which you must build a kingdom and - you guessed it - overcome a couple of Dragons.

If you're looking for a straight-up action RPG, you'll want to skip over Kingdom & Dragons straightaway as there's no getting around the city building portion of the game.

But if you're willing to play along with the Farmville-like town building, there's potential for a lot of fun here.

Final whatnow?

While Kingdom & Dragons advertises three characters for you to choose from, you begin with only one - Alan the Templar - who bears a passing resemblance to Final Fantasy III's Luneth.

To unlock Robin the Bowmaster or Rose the Enchantress, you'll have to fork over 80 or 120 Gems (respectively) which you'll need to pick up through serious in-game grinding or via an in-app purchase or two.

As you build your settlement up, you'll eventually be able to craft better gear for Alan, Robin, and Rose and send them further afield, so the action and city-building portions of the game do dovetail rather nicely.

If you'd like to take a crack at this shiny new title over the weekend, you can pick it up from Google Play for the just-right price of free.
