  • King of Crabs: Invasion is out now for iOS but remains in pre-registration on Android
  • It mixes the classic King of Crabs characters with a new puzzle RTS format
  • Overwhelm your opponents or unleash powerful units at the right time to win

The King of Crabs franchise, such as it is, has received something of a mixed reaction from us. The original King of Crabs was a battle royale with an interesting concept, but not much depth to it. But maybe King of Crabs: Invasion will prove to be a better direction for the series? A successful sideways step, if you will.

Concept-wise, this is not an altogether unusual concept. King of Crabs: Invasion is one of those lane-filling RTS puzzlers where your job is to overwhelm your opponent with a mixture of clever troop-based tactics and overwhelming numbers. The key is knowing when and where to deploy your most effective units to exploit a weak point and break through.

Now, obviously, we've seen this done many times before. But where King of Crabs: Invasion may have the advantage is in that the inherent strength of the KoC franchise is its absurdity. And this is on full show with the number of crazy units that you can select, ranging from normal crabs to mecha variants.

Currently, King of Crabs: Invasion is only available on iOS and remains in pre-registration on Android. But on release, it promises to offer a variety of modes in which to do battle with your opponents, a variety of the aforementioned bizarre crab units and the potential to further upgrade your army over time in order to make them even more powerful.

It's an unusual step for the King of Crabs to take after previously focusing on a battle royale. But if this manages to offer more depth for crustacean fans out there, they may be onto a winner.

But if you're still not fussed, there are plenty more options out there. Why not try out our list of the top 25 best strategy games for iOS and Android to find some more options?
