King of Crabs - Invasion brings PvP crustacean action back to mobile
  • King of Crabs - Invasion is coming to iOS and Android May 30th
  • It sees the King of Crabs franchise take an RTS twist
  • Overwhelm your opponents with legions of crabs in specialised roles

If you're a longtime reader, you may recall that we reviewed a funny little battle royale called King of Crabs back in 2019. And while it didn't really strike a chord with our reviewer, the developer has apparently taken another crack at the King of Crabs series with their upcoming release, King of Crabs - Invasion.

Yes, developer Robot Squid has decided that rather than riffing on the battle royale genre, they're instead going for the RTS niche. In a similar vein to something like Age of War, King of Crabs - Invasion pits you against an opponent across a linear battlefield.

You'll need to pick and choose what units you deploy, attempting to overwhelm your opponent before getting destroyed yourself. This means everything from regular swarms of crabs, to catapults and even mace-wielding crustaceans is on the cards. But with different battlefields and obstacles, winning is easier said than done.

It's not hard to see that King of Crabs - Invasion is taking the crustacean-based mayhem of the original and translating it to a new genre. And for an irreverent a concept as crabs fighting to the death, it seems like a natural next step to make a simple but fun little RTS.

At the same time, given Cameron's criticism that the initial concept of King of Crabs didn't stand up to scrutiny, it does concern me that the initial humour of King of Crabs - Invasion may wear off fairly quickly. But, there's only one way to find out, and you can discover it for yourself when King of Crabs - Invasion releases May 30th!
