Racing games are one of the biggest console genres but they've been less numerous and successful on App Store.

Still, small developers remain keen to push the iPhone and iPod touch's 3D capabilities and the latest to press pedal to the metal is Video Mind Games, with its Killer Edge.

Developer Nalin Sharma said he was inspired to bring the previously mobile tech demo to App Store because he was a little disappointed by some of the iPhone driving games he played, particularly in terms of the number of cars on screen, and the lack of car-to-car bumping and battling.

Killer Edge mixes up various gameplay mechanics. It's based around nine tracks, each of which has gaps you can fall off (killer edges), while the 12 vehicles each have different driving physics attributes. These come into play as you drift around corners and dodge and barge your way past the other cars.

However you'll also get the option to grab one of seven power-ups - turbo, speed, attack, defence, traction, shield and energy - to help you win the race. Control is via touchscreen or tilting your device.

Killer Edge is out now, priced £1.19/$1.99.
