Just four months after the release of its first and only game, the Silver Award-winning Kid Icarus: Uprising for 3DS, Japan-based Nintendo subsidiary Project Sora has officially been closed down.

Japanese gaming blog Andriasang reports that the website for Project Sora, which was founded in early 2009 by Ninty president Saturo Iwata and ex-HAL Laboratory game designer Masahiro Sakurai, carries a notice stating that the developer closed its doors for good on June 30th.

Project Sora's website itself will cease to exist on July 31st.

Sakurai himself will remain busy for the foreseeable future, of course, given his continued involvement in the forthcoming 3DS and Wii U Smash Bros sequel. It's still a shock to discover that Project Sora has closed for business, though.
