There's no doubt in our minds that a good portion of 3DS owners are waiting for word on when we'll be getting our Smash Bros groove on in three dimensions.

Nintendo confirmed the existence of the next game in the fighting series at E3 last year, although producer Masahiro Sakurai later conceded that his team's priority was the development of Kid Icarus: Uprising.

Unfortunately, it sounds like we're even further from the smash than was originally thought, as Sakurai has now told Nintendo Power magazine that he hasn't even put a team together for the game yet.

"I can't really say anything until things settle down with Kid Icarus," he explained. "And a lot of it will depend on the team that I end up assembling for Smash Bros. It may take a while, but I think that your patience will be rewarded."

Looks like no Smash Bros in 2012. Sad faces all around.
