JetPack Joyride Racing is a new racing spinoff of Halfbrick's hit endless runner
  • Jetpack Joyride Racing is set to arrive on mobile this June
  • Signups for the closed beta are now open
  • Jump into karts and control iconic Halfbrick characters as you race for domination

As far as defining devs of early mobile go, Halfbrick Studios are definitely up there. After all, who among us younger readers didn't thrill to wasting our parent's time at the Apple store as we played Jetpack Joyride on the demonstration iPads? It's not surprising then that Jetpack Joyride has had plenty of spinoffs, now including a kart racer!

Jetpack Joyride Racing is slated for a June 20th release and is, as you might expect, a kart racing spinoff based on Halfbrick Studios hit endless runner. In it you can choose from protagonist Barry Steakfries and a number of other Halfbrick characters as they race for dominance in themed karts.

Halfbrick Studios have also announced that a closed beta will be available for signups, and pre-registration is now open for the wider playerbase. If you're interested in trying Jetpack Joyride Racing ahead of the pack, be sure to take a gander at the official Halfbrick Studios Discord for sign-ups.

Spinning off

Jetpack Joyride promises to offer a mix of casual, pick-up-and-play appeal, as well as deeper mechanical complexity to encourage hardcore kart racers. I think the only confusion I personally have is that these iconic characters are hopping into karts, rather than sticking with the jetpack themeing as you might expect - could you not still drift corners in jetpacks and simply be kept within the track through some sort of barrier?

But, that one quibble aside, Jetpack Joyride Racing promises to be a fun and intriguing spinoff for the series that has been an icon of mobile gaming for many years now. You'll want to keep an eye on Halfbrick Plus to see what else is coming to the studios' subscription gaming service.
