Hollow Knight won't be getting a physical release on Switch after all
Bad news for the collectors out there
If you were hoping to add a physical copy of the excellent metroidvania Hollow Knight to your collection, prepare to be disappointed. The project has, unfortunately, been canceled for the foreseeable future.
Publisher Skybound Games took to Twitter this weekend to make the announcement, revealing that the company would no longer be working with Hollow Knight developer Team Cherry Games to create a physical version of the game.
Team Cherry, which currently consists of only three people, found it difficult to commit to working on a physical retail version of the game while also continuing production on Hollow Knight. It seems the two companies ended their partnership on good terms, however. The developers gave further details in an announcement on their website: As a team of 3 people still in intensive production of Hollow Knight, taking the game into the retail space (even with the extensive assistance of Skybound) proved more work than we could reasonably manage. In future we will investigate other ways to deliver physical versions of Hollow Knight, though likely that will be in smaller quantities. So that looks like the end of that for now. Perhaps Limited Run Games will pick up the project? You can still enjoy Hollow Knight on Nintendo Switch via the eShop. We are saddened to share that we’ll no longer be working with @TeamCherryGames to bring #HollowKnight to new platforms. We absolutely love the game and wish Team Cherry continued success. We look forward to seeing what’s next for them. pic.twitter.com/Cyp9tniGKu — Skybound Games (@skyboundgames) November 9, 2018
