Jet Set Games, a rag tag collection of veteran game programmers with titles like Command & Conquer on their CVs, has released its first game on iPhone.

Highborn is a turn-based strategy game for tacticians on the go, but with a casual skew so even greenhorn dictators can have a go. It mixes up 2D top-down maps, where you capture points and receive spells, with 3D battle scenes, where you deck unsuspecting skeletons.

You can even play with your buddies, at your own pace, with push notifications and all that jazz. You can cull opponents from your Facebook friends, if they're still talking to you after all the Robot Unicorn Attack spam.

We've had hands on with the game for some time now, so we could give you the lowdown the second the game hit the App Store.

We said "Highborn is a well-intended, though unpolished tactics game that needs to incorporate a number of basic features in order to improve playability," before slapping a Bronze Medal on its lapel.

Highborn is available now iPhone and iPod touch for £1.79 / $2.99 / €2.39. Charge!
