Hellboy: The Stench of Evil unleashed on mobile in the US

Just as the big angry demon-dude prepares to return to the cinema screens, Konami jumps ahead and opens the mobile doors to hell in The Stench of Evil.

Although a title like that inspires us to brashly editorialise about the expected quality, fans of the sardonic comic will probably get where it's coming from. So we'll hold off on juvenile remarks about whether or not the Boy's game stinks until the review comes along (go ahead and hit 'Track It!' down at the bottom in anticipation).

A beloved cult character, Hellboy's seen his share of interactive adaptations, and this latest offering follows the gaming lineage more than the movie one. Designed exclusively for the mobile platform, the story takes you through 12 unique levels of 2D demon bashing mayhem.

Despite the mobile gaming world going all 3D and fancy-pants on us right now (for more info see everything about the iPhone everywhere on Pocket Gamer), the isometric environments and very recognisable characters graphics look to be doing a good job of recreating Hellboy's comic book origins.

With Indian spirits, shamans and terribly evil mystical Nazis all waiting to get a close look at Hellboy's right-hook, the game will hopefully fill the gap while we await the big screen release of The Golden Army.

Spanner Spencer
Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
