Considering Hollywood’s current mythological bent, the chance to wield a giant hammer in Hammer Wars couldn’t have struck at a better time. But the game’s focus is more ‘Thor-Punk’ than traditional Greek myth.

The player pilots a small craft through handsome (and partially destructible) parallax scrolling caves, armed with a variety of blunt instruments. The weapons trace a physics led path and pivot around the player’s ship, crashing into enemies with satisfying heft.

Developer iSquared Games only formed last year, but has already produced this game and has three other PS3/PSP games in development.

Whilst the idea of pounding enemies over the head with reckless abandon appeals to everyone at Pocket Gamer, we’re concerned that having to swing your weapon around may degrade accuracy and end up quite tiring.

We’ll tell you whether or not they’ve nailed it in our upcoming review. Keep your eyes peeled.
