Halls of Torment sticks Diablo and Vampire Survivors in a blender and hits puree
  • Halls of Torment is set to arrive September 1st on mobile
  • It's a brutal blend of Diablo and Vampire Survivors
  • Upgrade heroes as you battle your way through hordes of enemies

After being announced earlier this year and covered in our Ahead of the Game series, Halls of Torment now has a solid mobile release date. This throwback blend of Diablo and Vampire Survivors is set to hit mobile September 1st, letting you slice and dice your way through the titular Halls of Torment.

Halls of Torment, as you can probably tell, takes heavy inspiration from both the hack 'n slash CRPGs of the '90s and modern roguelike bullet heavens. You'll guide your bit-crushed adventurer deep into the titular halls, slicing, dicing, spellcasting, and just slaughtering your way through hordes of enemies.

With even faster and more furious 6-15 minute battles, Halls of Torment for mobile has had other revamps, with hundreds of trails, skills, equipment and quests to discover. Which is on top of the already deep gems, gear upgrades and strategic build options.

Halls Bells (and buckets of upgrades)

I think it was an ingenious idea to combine the look and feel of the old Diablo with the fast-paced action of Vampire Survivors. But rest assured, this isn't just a reski,n and Halls of Torment has plenty of distinguishing factors, not least being the more active role you take in combat.

As noted by Catherine Dellosa, Halls of Torment boasts a compelling gameplay loop with all the reasons to keep checking back in as you slowly accrue more upgrades and gear, leaping back into the dungeon with more preparation. So if you think you can handle the terror, keep an eye out for when it arrives next week.

Of course, with us making all these comparisons to Vampire Survivors, it seems unfair to leave out the uber-popular roguelike. So why not check out our list of the top mobile games like Vampire Survivors for some of our picks of releases like it?
