Out at midnight: Hack, Slash, Loot is a deep but accessible roguelike that's perfect for your coffee break
No time to waste
Hack, Slash, Loot made a fair ol' splash on PC back in 2012. Tonight, however, it'll finally be available on iPad and Android tablets.
That's particularly exciting given that Hack, Slash, Loot is the type of "retro-styled turn-based dungeon crawler" (i.e. roguelike) that's just perfect for mobile gaming.
It contains the depth of more complex roguelikes but boasts incredibly simple controls. I've had a quick look at it and can confirm that it's all taps and swipes. So, yes, very easy to pick up.
The game's procedurally generated dungeons and their varied contents (monsters, wizards, warriors, items, spells, equipment) contribute to the impressive replay value here.
Of course, there are multiple playable characters with unique fighting styles. Plus, there are six different quests to complete. Oh, and you won't be clocking any of them overnight.
If you've played the PC version of Hack, Slash, Loot, then you'll probably be glad to read that barely anything has been changed in the transition to tablets.
Hack, Slash, Loot will be available from the UK and US App Stores at midnight tonight. It'll go live on Google Play tomorrow. It will cost you £2.99 / $4.99 on both platforms.
You can find more information about the game on its official website if you want it.
