Gunjack is an upcoming Gear VR arcade shooter set in the EVE universe
Gun turrets for eyes
CCP Games, the creator of massive online space sim EVE, has announced virtual reality arcade shooter Gunjack.
It's heading to the Samsung's Android-based Gear VR, making it the baby cousin of CCP's other virtual reality game EVE: Valkyrie on PS4 and PC.
You play Gunjack in first-person, sat at the gun turret on a mining vessel in the Outer Ring region of known space.
Your job is to protect the rig from pirates, opportunists, and anyone else who wants a go by blasting them to bits.
The trailer shows that there are a variety of upgrades to collect as they float around in space, offering different ways to dispatch multiple enemies at once.
You'll also see in the trailer that Gunjack looks pretty darn great. It's built in Unreal Engine 4, which CCP hopes will making it "the most action-packed, graphically-stunning game possible on this new virtual reality platform."
As to when, precisely, Gunjack will be available, CCP says it "will be available with the official launch of the Samsung Gear VR platform."
The Gear VR already has an "Innovator Edition," which came out last December in the US, so CCP presumably refers to the Gear VR 2 which is due out at the end of 2015.
