Growbot is an adorable sci-fi point-and-click adventure that’s recently been ported to mobile. You play as Nara, an inquisitive growbot currently training to become a captain.
While this biopunk sci-fi adventure boasts lovely, distinct environments, familiar point-and-click puzzle solving, and fun, quirky characters, the real question is whether the mobile port is up to par.
Nara also encounters quite a few captivating creatures, many of whom need your help. Fixing the cogs on a living coral reef, feeding special jam to a cute creature known as a Starbelly and freeing sea dragons from a maze are just a few of the tasks you’ll need to complete.
One of the biggest challenges many mobile ports face is adapting the controls. Luckily, Growbot features intuitive touch controls. Tap on the screen to interact with various objects and move Nara across the screen.
Objects you collect will either be added to a vertical column on the left if it’s a permanent item or to the right column if it can only be used once. Tap an object and slide it on top of another item in your inventory to combine them. The simple and easy-to-pick-up control scheme allows you to quickly immerse yourself in the cutesy sci-fi world of Growbot.
You can collect new notes by tapping on certain flowers throughout your adventure. Each flower represents a specific note. You’ll then need to listen to the melody emitted by the shield blocking your path and replicate it to create a shield key.
Growbot is a cute sci-fi journey that’s both heartwarming and challenging, coming to iOS and Android on August 7th. The classic puzzle-centric gameplay, combined with its intuitive touch controls, makes it a mobile port well worth playing. With a distinct sci-fi flora backdrop, enchanting creatures, and an adorable protagonist, this little point-and-click adventure is an excellent choice for fans of the genre.
