The whinnies take it all in Player One's new sim

Grand National Ultimate trots onto mobile

Pocket Gamer's approach to betting on horse races is simple. Put your house on the nag with the silliest name, or the glossiest coat, or the closest resemblance to Ruud van Nistelrooy. Obviously, we're all homeless, but still...

Thankfully, you don't need McCririck-style knowledge to do well in Player One's latest game. Grand National Ultimate leaves out the betting in favour of pure racing, with you playing a jockey trying to take his horse all the way to Aintree for the Grand National.

It's not just about one race, though. You have to compete in a season of 13 races around the world, on courses in the UK, France, Germany, the US and Spain. There's four types of track to race on, too, from lush green grass through to squelchy brown mud.

Player One is promising simple controls to steer your horse and leap over fences, while the company also has the rights to offer live video streaming of this year's race, tips and previews from John McCririck himself, and highlights from previous Grand Nationals.

Grand National Ultimate will be on an operator portal near you imminently, while for more information about Player One's sporting games, read our recent interview with Pete Russell.
