A game's tail is just as important as the initial burst of sales that surround any successful launch.

As such, the fact Halfbrick's Fruit Ninja has managed to sell its second million on iOS almost as quickly as it reached its first is a flag the developer no doubt considers is worth waving.

The numbers are certainly close. Fruit Ninja hit its first million downloads on the App Store within 74 days of its launch back in April.

Reaching its second million has taken the developer a further 78 days.

Fruit for all

Said downloads have also led to a considerable amount of play time, according to Halfbrick's numbers.

In total, more than 24 billion pieces of fruit have now been sliced in play, equating to more than 10 million tonnes worldwide.

In game stats aside, however, it's the sheer rate of downloads that suggests sales of Halfbrick's hit aren't set to slow down anytime soon.

Indeed, Fruit Ninja also hit the top spot on Android within 24 hours of its release on the platform earlier this month, with Halfbrick previously confirming that the game will launch on Windows Phone 7 when the platform makes its debut later this year.
