Halfbrick's Fruit Ninja is the sort of simple, pick-up-and-play game that's ideal for a quick session on your iPhone or iPod touch.

And backed with an enthusiastic marketing campaign - check out the YouTube videos - not to mention a constant stream of updates (five), its million sales since its April release prove that the 99c price point can still work for the right kind of game.

In this context, what's also significant is that there's no free version available. This forces any interested gamers to spend 99c - a relatively easy decision in most cases.

As for the future, Australia studio Halfbrick says it will continue to release more updates, while Fruit Ninja HD, with enhanced graphics and two new multiplayer split screen modes, will be released next week.
