Friends & Dragons lets you strategise formations as you crawl through puzzle dungeons, now on soft launch

In case you missed it, Playsome Ltd has soft-launched Friends & Dragons, the Finland-based developer's puzzle dungeon-crawler. Inspired by tabletop RPGs, the turn-based game with strategic elements tasks players with organising their team's tactical positions in combat to win against their foes.

In Friends & Dragons, players can expect to collect over 150 heroes as they rebuild their town and save their home from fearsome beasts. There are more than 500 handcrafted puzzles players can challenge, as well as weekly events to take part in and competitive tasks to clear. Players can also join guilds and team up with friends to complete dungeons together and score some epic in-game goodies.

"I'm sure you've seen a million strategy/puzzle games on mobile by now which all play quite similar. We felt the same and wanted to make sure our gameplay was unique enough to actually be a major part of the appeal of the game. We wanted to deviate from the standard turn-based formula," says Don from Playsome. "Rather than go down a traditional route of selecting a character, moving them and then watching the match unfold, we have a substantially stronger emphasis in our gameplay on positioning. I don't mean making sure your tanks are in the front and DPS in the back (although that remains important). Rather, movement is the core part of the gameplay."

The game features a tile-based system where players can drag their heroes around under a specified time limit. Units can be flipped to adjust more strategic positioning, allowing players to really put on their thinking caps as they plan their moves ahead of time. Can you find the best positions to maximise damage output and clear the whole floor in one go?

If you're curious about the game, you can download Friends & Dragons in its soft launch phase on the Google Play Store for Android devices and on the iOS App Store. It's a free-to-play game with in-app purchases.
