If we're absolutely honest, we're wondering how much value there is in creating mobile games based on Tetris. After all, there are plenty about but it's the original game which consistently tops the charts.

Still, that hasn't put JavArt off. The developer has revealed more details and the first screenshots of its newie, FreeStyle Blocks, which it boldly claims will make other block-based games look obsolete.

FreeStyle Blocks has a storyline, for starters, with you playing a chap who wants to join one of the most powerful gangs in New York. Rather than get him to bump off a rival mobster, as is traditional, his would-be overlords demand he goes through three zones of the city proving his skills at a falling blocks game.

Accompanied by a hip-hop soundtrack, this means colourful Tetris-like action, with more focus on using special bricks called things like 'blob', 'rain', 'chameleon', 'laser-beam' and 'ghost' to clear the screen.

Wouldn't have happened in Marlon Brando's day...
