Nintendo is planning to release a bespoke 3DS version of its portable animation package Flipnote Studio on the eShop this summer.

Entitled Flipnote Studio 3D, this free animation software will allow you to add extra dimensional layers to your moving images.

To achieve the 3D effect, you will be able to draw and animate three separate layers. You can then adjust the depth of these three layers to create the desired 3D effect.

As with the original Flipnote Studio app, this 3D version will support audio. Wannabe Walt Disneys will also be able to share their work with the 3DS community - and the rest of the world if they choose - thanks to a built-in AVI encoder.

Incidentally, if you think Flipnote Studio is just a toy, think again.

The Legend of Zelda creator Shigeru Miyamoto, for instance, has been using the app in a more professional context of late.

Apparently, Miyamoto used the Flipnote Studio app on his 3DS to mock-up samples for his upcoming Pikmin cartoon.

The rest of us will just have to wait until the summer to get our hands on the Flipnote Studio 3D app for 3DS.
