Firemint's Rob Murray on 1.5m sales record: 'There’s still a lot more Flight Control to come'

You know what you want to do? What you want to do, right, is you want to make a game like that game Flight Control. Here’s how come.

Despite taking about a month to make, Flight Control is one of the App Store’s most successful games, and it’s just passed what Firemint thinks is a hitherto undisturbed record of 1.5m sales.

The game came out in March, and it hit 1m in the last half of June. It’s now the beginning of September, which means sales aren’t slowing by much, if at all. This success is not only down to the quality of the game, which has already benefited from a massive size-trebling update, but to its nugatory 59p/99c price point.

Since Firemint CEO Robert Murray took the time to put his words in a press release, we’ll pass them on. “I’m just so incredibly grateful to all the many people around the world who have embraced Flight Control and helped us to reach this amazing milestone. There’s still a lot more Flight Control to come!”

There are no doubt high fives and champagne flutes aplenty in the Firemint offices today, which possibly explains why my inbox had not one but two Firemint press releases in it this morning: this one, and another announcing that Real Racing will be on sale this weekend.
