iPhone RPG Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions now battling Apple's approval process

We first expected Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions in September of last year, but that came and went.

We then received a tentative 'spring 2011' release date, which in turn was superceded by a late June / mid-July 'promise'. Again, they've passed.

However, it now looks like the eagerly anticipated tactical role-playing game is finally ready to be released, since it's been officially submitted to Apple's approvals team.

Take your turn

If you don't know, Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions is a remake of the PSP remake of the 1998 isometric PlayStation masterpiece. Got that?

Set in a fictional kingdom known as Ivalice, the game follows the War of the Lions - a conflict brought about by the death of King Ondaria.

Its PSP outing earned a highly prestigious and extremely coveted Pocket Gamer Platinum Award at review.

Providing The Big A doesn't drag its feet and the game doesn't disobey any of the Cupertino company's rules, we should see it in the next week or two.

An iPad version is expected to drop shortly after the iPhone release.
