Take part in some farming AND fantastical battles in the pleasant-looking Festival of Magic

Back in 2011, SnowCastle Games's debut title, Hogworld: Gnart's Adventure, was chosen by Apple as one of the best apps of the year.

No pressure on the studio's follow-up, then, eh.

Initially, though, it seemed as if said follow-up Festival of Magic was only destined for PC, Mac, and Wii U.

Fortunately, SnowCastle later added that "an iPad version might be coming".

Magic man

In Festival of Magic, you play as Amon, who has a cute piggy companion called Gnart (sound familiar?). Together, they scavenge the deserts of Umbra (land divided by light and magic).

To make any progress in the game, you will have to tend to your island farm AND complete quests involving turn-based battles, puzzles, and exploration.

The food and plants you successfully grow are converted into ammo and spells that you'll use to fight the eccentric cast of fantastical enemies.

As you can tell even from the alpha footage above, Festival of Magic is presented in a very inviting fashion. Memories of the 3D worlds of many Nintendo games come flooding back instantly.

Hopefully, Festival of Magic will appear on iPad at some point after it's released on PC, Mac, and Wii U. I'm crossing my fingers now.
