The App Stork: Introducing QuitIt!, Volcano Planet, Attack of the Dust Bunnies...
|

Choosing the top three games to feature in this week’s App Stork wasn’t easy. There were several baskets full of new born mewling goodness delivered to our forums over the last seven days and any of the titles would have been worthy of a special mention in any other week.

In the end, the titles with the nicest videos won out. The App Stork, like most birds, likes shiny things. But the lack of the inclusion of some perfectly deserving games is in large part due to the burgeoning popularity of our forum, so if you can only see your wares posted at the bottom of the page, fear not. If someone doesn’t notice them there, they will surely have already had a gander via the forum.

If you are an iPhone developer who is yet to discover the promised land of the Pocket Gamer iPhone forums, then all you need to do is create an account and get posting. Who knows: next week it could be your App sitting pride of place in the top three.

For those of you not up to your eyes in Objective C (i.e. gamers) do make sure you let the developers know what you think about the games you try out. You just might make their day.

QuitIt! - 2n Productions

It’s hard to discern exactly what the competitive element of QuitIt! actually is, but it’s easy to see how much fun it looks. The forum post reads,

You’re an audience member of a game show called QuitIt! You interact with Lumpy, the show’s star, by poking him with various pokers to win cash. Use your winnings to buy strange gifts for Lumpy as well as even stranger pokers for your persistent poking pleasure.

Sounds like a giggle. We particularly like the cow smothered in lipstick that can be seen in the background. Hopefully that’s just one example of the game’s off-beat humour. QuitIt! is currently pending Apple’s approval, so fingers crossed this makes it to the App Store soon.

Attack of the Dust Bunnies - Blue Omega Mobile Blowing bunnies of any kind up with heavy artillery, dust or otherwise, is usually the sort of thing that features in a psychopath’s journal. In Attack of the Dust Bunnies, however, developer, Blue Omega Mobile, has somehow managed to make it cute. Not just cute, but exciting, with the screen filling with sniggering bunnies and heat-seeking missiles after just a few minutes play.

The idea is simply to rid the nether regions of your home from Dust Bunnies by tapping on them quickly every time they briefly break from cover. There are various locales featured, including under the bed, behind the sofa, and in the garage.

The developer is also running a Design a Dust Bunny contest, where the lucky winner will receive 200 dollars worth of iTunes credit and have their creation featured in the game. The title is out now and costs £1.79.

Volcano Planet - JellyBiscuits Finally, a touchscreen title with a veiled environmental message. Thanks to the inhabitants of Volcano Planet, aka Xedoitz, not paying any attention to global warming or carbon emissions, you need to tap out the active volcanoes, before the gas they are spewing makes the atmosphere unbreathable for the inhabitants.

It’s interesting to see an original puzzler with such an obvious message to convey, so kudos to JellyBiscuits for opting for the interactive medium and the App Store in finding a receptive audience. The game is out now and costs a mere £0.59.
