If Rock Band was a mobile game...
What EA Mobile should do to make a musical mobile monster

First in a regular series brainstorming how we'd like to see our favourite brands translate to the mobile gaming space. First up: Rock Band.
The Brand
Top-selling console game famous for bringing you 'A Band in a Box', with guitar, vocals, bass and drums. As in actual drums.
The Concept
Local multiplayer game let's you create sweet, sweet music with your friends. Or just make an unholy racket. It'd be released for N-Gage and iPhone – high-end mobile platforms with the audio capabilities to do it justice.
The Details
It's a rhythm-action game, obviously. Guitar Hero III Mobile and Guitar Rock Tour have showed how well the 'notes falling down the screen' gameplay can work, so it makes sense to stick with that element of the Rock Band console game.
It would need to be reconfigured for three-column mobile keypads, naturally, although a touchscreen version would be developed in parallel, with iPhone (and other handsets) in mind. Think Tap Tap Revenge on Apple's handset, except with proper songs.
Ah, yes, the game would naturally have a bunch of licensed tracks from suitable rawk bands – with direct links to also buy them as downloads from iTunes or Nokia's Music Store, depending which version you're playing.
With these being high-end mobile platforms, the game would have decent 3D cut-scenes, presented with a dash of humour. We're thinking Spinal Tap-style mishaps.
The Connectivity
You can play the game alone, practising any instrument. But the real fun comes with the local multiplayer mode, using wi-fi (iPhone) or Bluetooth (N-Gage).
Up to four handsets can link to play at once, with each player taking a different instrument. Synchronise well, and you'll create a rock symphony. Perform badly and, well, you'll be remembering that Crazy Frog ringtone with fondness by comparison.
There might also be the option to download new track packs for the game, although for iPhone, they'd need to be standalone game versions. Perhaps they could be themed by artist – Rock Band: Motley Crue Edition and so on.
