100% Movie Blockbusters

From the big screen to the micro screen

As gaming technology advances, as it has done by leaps and bounds over the last few years, developing games is becoming a far more involved task. Graphics, sound and gameplay aren't as all-encompassing as they once were, and software houses are having to adopt a great many tools and techniques more traditionally associated with screenwriting.

Of course, they can also forego all that tedious character development by jumping on board an existing entertainment franchise, and that's exactly what this week's 100% Mobile is all about. Converting a film into a game has become something of a notoriously difficult task – doubly so for the mobile platform which lacks the resources often necessary to recreate a modern film's premise.

This just makes it all the more exciting when a game licence succeeds, and we've had a good look around the cutting room floor for some of the better examples of movie tie-ins. They're not always the ones you'd expect, however. Death Race is a particular favourite, and even surpasses the lacklustre film remake, while Gladiator didn't come along until eight years after the epic movie was released, yet still manages to pack a suitable Spaniard punch.

And it's a two-way street, with films like Eagle Eye featuring the necessity of the mobile phone in modern life in its storyline, while the likes of Transformers provide a suitable allegory for the rapid evolution of communication technology. So get online and check out our selection of 100% Movie Blockbusters – direct from the big screen to the micro screen. The 100% Movie Blockbusters

Spanner Spencer
Spanner Spencer
Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
