Etrian Odyssey Untold goes 50% off, EO IV price slashed as well on US eShop

3DS owners in North America who appreciate a good 'ol fashioned dungeon crawling challenge are in for some good news, thanks to the folk over at Atlus USA.

For the next week (5/12 – 5/19), the Bronze Award-winning Etrian Odyssey IV: Legends of the Titan is on sale for $19.99 - marked down from its original $29.99 price point.

But the real draw to the sale is the Silver Award-winning Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl, which is on sale for $19.99, or a full 50 per cent off of its original asking price.

Both RPGS put a firm focus on map-making and exploration, and they prioritize grid-based dungeon crawling over eye-popping graphics.

In our review of Etrian Odyssey IV, we called it "the perfect definition of niche RPG gaming" - noting that it caters heavily to hardcore players but might leave casual players in the lurch due to its go-your-own-way approach to exploration.

Etrian Odyssey Untold, however, fixes a lot of these issues with the addition of a new Story Mode that lets you play as a set of fully-voiced, pre-made characters: a first for the EO franchise.

We noted that The Millennium Girl creates an "immersive new game experience" all while preserving "much of what made the original Etrian Odyssey popular (and difficult)" in the first place.

As noted above, this sale is in effect now on the US eShop but ends on May 19.
