Eliminate, ngmoco's ambitious multiplayer-only first-person shooter set for release later this month, will be free to play the company has revealed.

In a tweet posted by CEO Neil Young, he confirms the game won't just launch as free for a limited time, but will be free permanently.

"Apple announces in-app purchase for free games, and so do we. ELIMINATE will be FREE-TO-PLAY" (emphasis in original).

The announcement follows shortly after Apple confirmed that it will allow in-app purchasing for free titles. This should make Eliminate one of the very first games to take advantage of this change, since the game allows you to purchase energy packs to quickly get back into combat.

Those energy packs are expected to be 59p/99c and wholly optional. Energy, which is required in order to accumulate experience points, regenerates automatically over a set period of time.

You can check out our impressions of the game, as well as our concerns about how these energy pack purchases may affect the balance of the game in our previous coverage.

Eliminate is expected to arrive on the App Store sometime near the end of October.
