ngmoco’s multiplayer iPhone first-person shooter Eliminate has attracted a lot of attention in the iPhone gaming world, partly because it looks good and partly because, thanks to a recent change in Apple’s App Store policy, it’s going to be free to play unless you want to buy extra goodies in-game.

Do you want the trick first, or the treat? Go on then, I’ll start with the treat: ngmoco has announced on Twitter that Eliminate has been approved and is now playable as a large scale beta. And now, the trick: only in Canada.

Still, it’s exciting news indeed that thousands of people (at a guess) are now playing it, even if you’re not one of them. While ngmoco still has minor tweaks to make - meaning that impressions at this stage are strictly unofficial - impressions so far have been positive, with both the gameplay and the crucially important 3G online performance apparently working fine.

If you want to learn more about the game, check out our hands on Eliminate preview, to be followed by a review when the finished game hits the App Store.
