Doodle Kingdom: Medieval is Epic Games' free pick this week
  • Doodle Kingdom: Medieval is the Epic Games Store's free release
  • Grab and claim it to keep now
  • Combine elements to make more complex ones, conquer quest and battle modes

Well, with Sweeney's pet project of the Epic Games Store now firmly planted on Android worldwide (and iOS in the EU), it seems that the latest free games there are going to be a common feature for us. And this week it's Doodle Kingdom: Medieval that's free for users to claim and keep!

If you're not familiar with the Doodle series, this long-running merge-like has been around since before the term even existed. Essentially, you need to combine elements to make more complex ones. Yes, this was basically Little Alchemy before it existed, although the focus is more on creating narrative pieces like dragons, peasantry and knights than combining fire and water.

Doodle Kingdom: Medieval comes with multiple modes. Genesis is essentially all about experimentation and creating new elements, Quest mode has you play through said quests using certain elements, while Return of the King has you helping to restore your kingdom to its former glory.

Yes, many of these elements are going to sound familiar if you remember our coverage of the first Doodle Kingdom back in the day. And as a revamped remaster of the original this certainly serves a purpose, although I'm not sure how well it'll grab those of you who already got a taste for top-tier releases like Super Meat Boy or Knights of the Old Republic.

But at the same time there's no denying that free games are always worthwhile, so maybe now is the time to play god once more and jump into Doodle Kingdom: Medieval.

If Doodle Kingdom: Medieval still isn't enough to keep you occupied, however, there's always our perennial feature of the top five new mobile games to try this week. Especially useful if you think you've missed some of the top launches from the last seven days!
