Late last month, game designers Philip and Andrew Oliver launched a rather ambitious Kickstarter campaign in the hope of raising £350,000 to fund PC and iOS platformer Dizzy Returns.

The campaign quickly attracted a lot of criticism from gamers who questioned whether or not such a large amount of cash was needed.

Despite the brothers vigorously defending their target goal and despite there being another seven days left until their Kickstarter campaign expires, the Oliver Twins have admitted defeat.

"Dizzy Returns in all likelihood won't meet its funding target," an update on the game's Kickstarter page reads.

"As of today the total amount pledged stands at just over £23,000 of our £350,000 goal - in order to meet that we'd need over £40,000 pledged every day, and realistically that's not going to happen."

According to Philip and Andrew Oliver, the Dizzy Returns Kickstarter campaign has actually achieved part of what it set out to do: gauge interest in a new Dizzy game.

Backers of this campaign have proven that there is at least some interest out there, but it's not quite as large as the brothers expected / hoped it would be.

So, if this campaign is unsuccessful, Dizzy Returns won't be made.

The Oliver Twins may revisit the idea of creating another new Dizzy game somewhere down the line, but they've stated that their vision of that game "would need to be considerably different".
