Were mobiles even invented when hero John McClane first hit the big screen?

In what looks like a mobile first, the game tie-in of the forthcoming blockbuster Die Hard sequel, Live Free or Die Hard, is to be a mobile exclusive, and the film licence will reportedly not be coming to home consoles in game form.

Quite a big film licence and quite a big deal for mobile games.

The publisher that has managed to snatch the rights to the game is the typically dependable Gameloft. According to the mobile specialist's Vice President Gonzague de Vallois, the game will capture the "action, intrigue and humour of the movie."

Storywise, we expect the game to mirror that of the movie fairly closely, which is based on a plot to obliterate America's computer infrastructure, thus causing all manner of economic chaos. Of course, it is up to everybody's favourite hungover hero, John McClane, to shoot enough guns, make enough wisecracks, and save the day with enough undaunted bravery to keep cinema goers clapping along until the credits roll.

Exact details about how the game will play have not been disclosed, but expect there to be lots of shooting and impromptu demolition, probably along the lines of Gameloft's recent (and excellent) Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory.

The game will launch just before the film on June 27th. Click 'Track It!' to catch our forthcoming review.
