John Romero remade his 1990 platformer Dangerous Dave for iOS, out now

John Romero, co-creator of shooter classics Doom and Quake, just released a new game for iOS. Well, an old ... new game, I guess.

It's his 1990 DOS-based platformer Dangerous Dave in the Deserted Pirate's Hideout remade with HD graphics, new sounds and music, and touch controls.

It also has the option to revert to the old graphics if you really want to entertain your nostalgia.

There are only 10 levels but, as the description reads, they're made to be hard and drive you into a fit of frustration.

The idea is to collect trophies inside the hideout of Dave's enemies. There are also gems to grab that let you up your score but increase the chances of you falling to your death.

This isn't actually the first Dangerous Dave game to be ported to mobile as Dangerous Dave in the Haunted Mansion - the one Romero considers the best - came to mobile in 2008.

Anyway, this one is free to download on the App Store right now so get at it. There's an optional £1.49 / $1.99 IAP if you want to remove the ads.
