DeathSpank creator launches new iOS shooter Chromanoids
Space-based shmup zooms onto App Store
Hothead Games, creator of the hilarious DeathSpank series and highly rated iOS title Bunny the Zombie Slayer, has just released its second App Store game.
Chromanoids is described by the developer as a “space arcade shooter”, and tasks you with saving the world from the eponymous enemies.
It’s not all non-stop blasting, though, as there’s a puzzle element to be considered. The Chromanoids come in several different flavours, and to destroy them you’ll have to shoot them with bullets of the same colour.
Color Me BaddThere are multiple power-ups to help you progress through the increasingly difficult waves of colourful foes, and there’s an anime-styled story for those who like their blasting leavened with a dose of drama and extraterrestrial romance.
Chromanoids features five different modes, including Armada, which introduces larger and quicker enemy waves, and Red-Shift, which allows you to blast away without having to worry about colour switching.
You can also expect Game Center support, with the usual local and online leaderboards.
If you can’t get enough of Hothead’s games, then you’ll be pleased to hear that it’s got more iOS titles lined up.
As the studio’s Joel DeYoung recently revealed to Pocket Gamer: "we have been working with one of the creators of Magic the Gathering on a multiplayer strategy card game called Kard Combat."
In the meantime, check out a trailer for Chromanoids below. It'll set you back 59p / 99c / €0.79, by the way.
