Popa Radu has released a charming new title on iOS today - in Axolotl Stars, players engage in a wacky endless running race across different levels filled with obstacles and challenges. The colourful endless runner also lets players unlock a wide variety of axolotls to discover multiple environments.

Axolotl Stars puts players' skills to the test in a series of chaotic levels in handmade 3D graphics. Whoever reaches the finish line first wins for the ultimate bragging rights. The game also boasts haptic feedback and screen optimisation features for mobile.

In case you're not familiar with what an axolotl is, these curious little critters are amphibians that, rather than mature out of their aquatic phase, stay in the water to thrive. They're common in captivity but almost extinct in the wild, and are named after the Aztec god of fire and lightning, Xolotl.

If you're eager to give the new game a go, Axolotl Stars is available to download on the iOS App Store. You can check out the official website for more info on all the latest developments, or have a look at the embedded trailer above to get a feel of the game's gameplay and visuals.

From the looks of it, the game does look like great fun to get into for a session or two with other players, as stages can be pretty wild and you'll have to dodge everything from wrecking balls to fellow racers. The stars of the show, the axolotls themselves, also look incredibly adorable - there's even one that's sporting a top hat and a monocle ala-Mr. Monopoly.
