Around two weeks ago, Tencent announced a brand new open-world game that's heading for iOS, Android and PC. It's an exciting prospect, particularly since it's being developed by the same team who created the enduringly popular PUBG Mobile.
I'm guessing that you're hungry for more information about Undawn if you've landed on this page. Whether you're looking for the latest on the Undawn release date or simply want to know what it's all about and what to can expect, we've got you covered. Here's everything you need to know about Undawn, so far.
What is Undawn?Undawn is an open-world, cooperative action game from Tencent. It's set in a world that has become overrun by zombies leaving players to scramble around cautiously, doing their utmost to survive. The zombies won't be the only dangers to contend with, however. In addition to PvE, players will also have to battle against other survivors in PvP exchanges.
It promises to be an extremely dangerous world to inhabit, so it would be wise for players to team up with others to increase their chances of survival. They will need to scavenge the giant open-world map for resources, which can be used to craft supplies and weapons for battling against the undead hordes and other players alike.
It will also be vital to work together to create shelters and trade resources to ensure that you and your friends are fully stocked up on the supplies they need. Additionally, scouting missions will need to be carried out to locate a promising homestead that can be fortified to protect players from the zombie threat.
What is the Undawn release date?Currently, the Undawn release date has not been officially announced, beyond Tencent stating that it's set to launch for iOS, Android and PC later this year. However, we do know that it will be entering pre-alpha soon in specific regions for Android. This suggests the release will likely be much later in the year since the development cycle usually progresses from pre-alpha to alpha to beta and so forth before a game is finally launched.
In Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau and the Southeast Asia region, Undawn will be handled by Garena, the folks behind the incredibly popular battle royale Free Fire. These are the locations where the pre-alpha will be carried out. If you live in one of those regions, head on over to TapTap. Here you'll find the details about how to be in with a chance to play the game before the Undawn release date is finalised. Just be aware that if you do manage to take part in the pre-alpha test, your data and progress will be deleted when Undawn releases.
Will Undawn be free-to-play?Given both Tencent and Garena's involvement in Undawn, it probably won't surprise you to learn that the game will be free-to-play. As we've mentioned in many of our explainer articles, multiplayer games tend to be free-to-play on mobile since plenty of titles take this approach, so new entries have to adopt the same model to stay competitive.
At the time of writing, we don't know how the game will be monetised. However, we can speculate that there will be some kind of battle pass or seasonal content since PUBG Mobile and Free Fire both implement this kind of content. Beyond that, there's a possibility some in-app purchases will be purely cosmetic whilst others may offer some form of a boost to gameplay. We'll be sure to update you as and when we learn more. In the meantime, we'll be patiently waiting for news on the Undawn release date.
