Monster Rancher 2's mobile and Switch ports get a gameplay trailer

If you missed the announcement earlier this month, PS1 cult classic Monster Rancher 2 is set to be ported over to iOS, Android, and Nintendo Switch. Now, the port's debut trailer has landed, giving us a clearer look at it in action (cheers, Gematsu).

The spruced-up remaster heads our way courtesy of Koei Tecmo , and while precise details are still fairly light on what to expect, we do know that the port will introduce some improvements to the now over twenty-year-old game. For example, it certainly seems to benefit from a nice bump in resolution.

Monster Rancher 2 tasks you with raising an army of strange critters to do your bidding and compete in challenging tournaments.

The game boasts over 400 collectable monsters in total, which is considerably more than the roughly 200-ish featured in My Monster Rancher. That one came to mobile back in 2012 and allowed you to visit another player's world to view their monsters.

The port of Monster Rancher 2 has currently only been confirmed for a Japanese launch. Its App Store and Google Play pages are now live, and the game will set you back 2,820 yen, which is roughly $27.

It's still unclear as to if/when Monster Rancher 2 will head westward. The earlier games always reviewed well outside of Japan, though the port's hefty price tag would perhaps be tough to swallow. In the meantime, be sure to check out the gameplay footage embedded above.
