Pat the Dog is an animated children's TV series that is based on the popular mobile game Space Dog. Now the titular dog has returned to his roots thanks to Plug In Digital, who have published a Pat the Dog mobile game for both iOS and Android, which is available now.

Pat is a very inventive dog, building an array of flying machines from different gizmos and gadgets that you'll mostly find lying around the house, dynamite being one of the exceptions, hopefully. Throughout the game, you'll be earning coins – or by buying them through IAPs – to test out these different inventions to see how far you can get.

It's a launcher game then, where you'll start each attempt by flicking your finger across the screen with the trajectory you want Pat to take off with. From there you'll be able to activate any items you've unlocked by tapping the icon, doing so at the right time will help you get that extra bit of distance for higher scores and more coins.

There are a variety of passive items you can unlock to help you out along the way too such as crash helmets that will protect you from the first wall you collide with. There are also objects that you can bounce off when you come into contact with them that will keep flinging Pat forward, these can be upgraded and new ones can be purchased to help you travel more distance.

It's the usual setup you'd expect from this genre then, with a cutesy aesthetic layered on top of it. It isn't anything massively complex but then that's not surprising given that the game is based on a children's TV show.

Pat the Dog is available now over on the App Store and Google Play. It's a free-to-play game with in-app purchases.
